"Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night."
-Edgar Allan Poe
"Skill without imagination is craftsmanship and gives us many useful objects such as wickerwork picnic baskets. Imagination without skill gives us modern art."
-Tom Stoppard
"We need men who can dream of things that never were."
-John F. Kennedy
One of the great privileges and pleasures reserved for the artist, is to give form to that which is unreal. All artists draw inspiration from reality, whether from personal experience, culture, myth, or the works of artists who proceeded them, but it is within an artist's mind that a new world --unique and distinctive-- takes shape. Its then by the artist's hand, that these unreal worlds are expressed to others, and the unreal becomes a reality to both the artist and the observer.
This spring, Projekt30 will host an exhibition of artwork which dwells within the realm of the unreal. We are seeking artworks with expressionistic or surrealistic tendencies, or artworks which reside in transcendental, fantastic, or metaphysical spaces. We are searching for the unseen, the unreal.
This exhibition will be publicly juried, the final exhibition will consist of artwork from 30 artists. Online applications only. Members with active accounts (as of the deadline) wishing to submit artwork should login and use the Submission Manager.
