My work explores the male figure as an object of beauty. Drawing inspiration from Classical Greek sculpture, the figures are highly idealized and focus primarily on the musculature of the torso. For this series of drawings, I used a variety of artistic media to create the illusion of three-dimensional form. In the colored drawings, I was particularly interested in depicting the various tonal values of human flesh, just as Lucian Freud did in his figure paintings. The predominant inclusion of negative space creates a sense of balance that activates the heavily detailed drawings while providing a visual resting place for the viewer’s eye.
